Systems development in Sharepoint
With a new EU agency with the aim to strengthen Europe's defence against infectious diseases, ECDC (European Center for Disease Control) needed a decision support system. A system for searching, collection of and analysis of infomation was a clear requirement. The system would also have to be connected to risk analysis of actions to minimize threats regarding the spreading of diseases.
The selection of Microsoft.Net as a platform with Sharepoint was made in order to ensure that the application was built on a standard platform, focusing on scalability, maintainability and structure. e-man has a long history of developing business critical applications on the Microsoft.Net platform since many years.. Through genuine experience from various object oriented developments we have applied our know-how on this technology.
Prelude
During the prestudy of the requirements, a public RFP was done, and e-man was selected as the supplier due to our high competence and technical skills in the sharepoint platform. Project management was delivered by e-man, and the system was built together with epidemic doctors in order to be a basis for event driven EI (Epidemic Intelligence) at ECDC.
Implementation
ECDC carried out an investigation over the needs and management necessary to be succesful in future decision support systems. Existing systems were evaluated, resulting in the decision to build a new system that would suit the requirements. By using a practical approach for the work, e-man ensured that ECDC's future decision support system would have the necessary support during all the phases of the project.
Within the remit was to produce reports for the daily work, and statistics on an annual basis. Maps can be presented with links to geographical risks.
ECDC (European Center for Disease Control)
The European Centre of Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) was established in 2005. It is an EU agency with aim to strengthen Europe's defences against infectious diseases. It is seated in Stockholm, Sweden.
According to the Article 3 of the founding Regulation, ECDC's mission is to identify, assess and communicate current and emerging threats to human health posed by infectious diseases.
In order to achieve this mission, ECDC works in partnership with national health protection bodies across Europe to strengthen and develop continent-wide disease surveillance and early warning systems. By working with experts throughout Europe, ECDC pools Europes health knowledge, so as to develop authoritative scientific opinions about the risks posed by current and emerging infectious diseases.
